As the term is soon ending I must get organised for the new term coming and there is so much to plan and do.
So for now I must give all hugs and kisses goodbye until things settle and I find my feet.
I have plans for lots of creative endeavours in class with students, art journalling, sketching, painting and collaging, and thinking of finding a school overseas to send art, maybe handmade post cards/ATC's. Will share all I know to help them find their confidence and express themselves! I am so excited:)
In the meantime will come by and say hello and take a peek at all your lovely work.
Also last week I purchased an Art Zine from ihanna about art journalling, can't wait to read through it and get inspired.
May your days be full of creative art making.
Angie :)

Gut Art Painting

Happy Saturday everyone!
Another long weekend in Brissy, looking forward to doing more painting and creating more in my "Gut Art" book.
There are two pieces, the background made from printed papers, tissue paper and acrylic paint. Then collaged anything which I liked from old magazines I had lying around, glued them in with no thought to where or why. Then I gessoed, painted over that, and then gessoed some more, to tone the colours down. Then I went over the edges with some crayons, just to make the collaged pieces pop out!
Lastly I added another piece of paper, on which I had written a list of "How to Journal", I just wrote what ever came to mind, then glued that on and gessoed over it, painted on the back once it was folded to make it look like it was part of the collaged pieces.
It was messy and fun and quite liberating, just painting without any thought to an outcome.Hope you like my pages and maybe give it a try.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5ok_QcpJyI/AAAAAAAAANI/7Q-yWBMFqDw/s320/IMG_1594.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447707368423499554" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5olASgqKrI/AAAAAAAAANY/eyszFAg1Fr0/s320/IMG_1596.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447707386157083314" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5ok_0f9tDI/AAAAAAAAANQ/Wnh02SPWu18/s320/IMG_1595.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447707378101105714" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5oveIKlodI/AAAAAAAAAN4/ruVsvP7JwWA/s320/IMG_1597.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447718893892510162" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5olBFzkYqI/AAAAAAAAANo/UiyUsqYrJ7Q/s320/IMG_1598.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447707399926604450" />
This is a tag from gorgeous Bev, I received in the mail a few days ago. I have quickly read through them, because each and everyone of the books are wonderful eye candy, so many gorgeous pictures, colours and inspiration, how could one resist not looking through them. But yes I needed to read thoroughly through each book to truly understand what the artist was trying to convey in her book.
In the next post I will reveiew "Journal Spilling" by Diana Trout and show you some of the pages that I have attempted at doing. Lots of fun!!!
Then as I read through each book I would like to do a write up and a visual of my interpretation of the art/craft from the book.See how we go...;)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5XH_BimNyI/AAAAAAAAAMw/QT36HF_zE90/s320/IMG_1506.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446479209933715234" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5XHqDfwqlI/AAAAAAAAAMo/IOTWYgr_-9M/s320/IMG_1591.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446478849681435218" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5XHjWOU4fI/AAAAAAAAAMg/tWLvF9TsmHE/s320/IMG_1590.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446478734449500658" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5XHT88gLPI/AAAAAAAAAMY/bdRsBVcopr8/s320/IMG_1589.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446478469965819122" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fplmL6vtkJ4/S5XHNS4VpUI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/Og55QarnmRA/s320/IMG_1593.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446478355594847554" />
Above are some images of the Valentines' gifts I made for my family. I found the tutorial in Shona's blog. Please go visit, this artist is truly gorgeous and generous with her art!
The last image is of a journal I made and re-made, still needs something but at the moment I will leave it,kinda stuck. Any ideas anyone?
So in the month of March, journaling is my focus, a page a day, and I am needing to catch up already! But will show and tell.
Does anyone else have a focus for the month?
Take care all you lovely creative people.....Angie ox

A wonderful book!

Also on Amazon!

This book by Shona Cole, "The Artistic Mother" would be a wonderful edition to any artist's library. Particularly if you have a family and/or lead a busy life.

I have not read the book itself yet but found Shona's blog by accident, surfing the net one rainy day, stumbled upon it and was attracted at first by the art work I saw and as I read further I became so interested in this artist and truly wondered how a mum with 4 children and homeschooled them could possibly find the time to also make art.
Then I realised she also wrote a book recently and was doing a give away of it.
So I jumped at the chance!
(If you would like to participate in this wonderful give away all you need to do is go to Shona's blog and leave a comment, link is above in her name.)

What a wonderful opportunity to spread the word and help a fellow artist, and you could win! ;)

Happy creating, Angie ox.

Mixed Media - "Flow"

Finished this painting finally, I don't know if you remember her drawing a few posts back.

This is the process:
Firstly I drew her face on a piece of paper.
Then painted the circles and swirls in acrylic on the canvas, had a slight problem as my paints dried too quickly and didn't give the effects of layering well. I can't seem to find 'Fluid Acrylics in Golden' brand here so had to make do with what I had.
Next I wet the paper with a spray bottle and layed it face down onto the canvas, then covered the paper with gel medium, Waited for it to dry.
Once it was dried I wet the paper again with the spray bottle and with my hands rubbed the paper off to leave the transfer of the drawing on it. I left some paper on it as I could see some of the transfer wasn't staying, it was coming off, but I still liked the effect.
The final stage was to doodle in the white circles with a permanent marker, I also used water-soluble pastels over the image of the girl and the swirls of colour, to try and give it more layers to the colours.
That's it!

I loved this process of using all these different mediums, I felt quite free to use what ever materials and it really felt like playing and discovering at the same time.
I feel like this process has taught me a lot about playing and trying things out without fear of making mistakes, also I can see how this mixed media painting style can lend itself to other paintings and images. LOVE IT!

I got this mixed media idea from Melliande's U-Tube. Please go and have a look she has so many ideas for mixed media painting, art journaling and other creative stuff, a real inspiration.

I wasn't sure what to name the painting, but "FLOW" came to mind so for now that is what it is called.
I find naming your work hard, even though every art piece has its own energy and feeling about it I sometimes get stumped as what to call them, to give them an identity.
What would you name the painting above, I would be interested in your thoughts about it and why you chose that name.

Happy creating, Angieox.

A Birthday Gift

I wanted to show you a piece of jewelry I made a few months back for my friend's 40th birthday.
She is an old friend I have known since we arrived in Queensland, our kids grew up together and we were pregnant at the same time with our second one's.
I wanted to give her something special that I had hand made especially for her.
I saw this U-tube video on how to make 'The Tree of life' and loved it straight away, it didn't take long to make and I thought that the name was appropiate for a birthday present.
On her card I wrote something about being 40 and just starting life as it were.

All wrapped up in tissue paper and silver sparkly thread!

"The Tree of Life"

She LOVED it! :)

This has been one of the first presents I have ever made for friends, and it felt so good to give something made by hand. Look at her, she looks all grown up. It is an end of an era for me, no more stay at home mum, now I go back to work.
I have mixed feelings about it all. But most of all I am excited about all the new changes coming up, a little anxious too, but mainly excited about what work will bring to all of us.
Firstly more money, less pressure for my husband to be the only bread winner, more independence for me, meet new people make new friends, and earn more money so I can buy more art supplies! (Last year I really had to watch what I spent my money on, most of it went into the art class.) So many positive things will come from it!

In the last few weeks I was also thinking about no longer writing my blog, giving up art, because I was feeling the pressure to conform, just concentrate on work and the family. But the weirdest thing kept happening, I kept hearing this voice saying "Keep the dream alive". So after more thinking, and hearing this voice in my head, I thought, no, NO. I will not give it up, I will not leave it till later, I will not forget about my dream, my spirit, I will not shelve it away till it gets all dusty and worn. Even though I haven't kept up with my blogging as I would have liked it too, some nights I am just too tired, blogging and its community has come to mean so much to me, I would miss catching up with all of you, I would miss seeing everyone growing and changing, also I would miss sharing my art with you, unfortunately in my circle of friends i have very few people who get what I do, who understand why it has become so important to me. So I am keeping the dream alive and as Oprah says, live my best life! ;)

So whilst going through all the turmoil of feeling a little down and blue, I made a journal page titled "What makes a house a home?" I felt that after so many years as a stay at home mum I felt very privileged to have had that opportunity, to make a home with my husband and children. And some of the words which came to me were; love, laughter, sharing a meal, cubby houses out of blankets, artworks displayed, music, tea breaks, acceptance, hugs, sanctuary.

I found this wonderful artist "Mystele" who paints lovely pictures in mixed media and she is doing a 2 week course which I have joined, very excited about starting it 1st of February, go have a look at her website and if you are interested in her class, I think she has a great presence.

This year for me I don't have a resolution as such but more a promise I have made to my self, to make art which resonates with me, more authentic, even if at first i may stumble and make ugly art! (quite a scary concept for me), but I just want to let go of my inhibitions and open my heart.
One type of painting or drawing I have been interested in is intuitive art/painting, where the artist allows the art to come from another place, inside of themselves.
Let's see where all this will take me!

Thank you all for coming on this journey with me, my blogger friends old and new, it has meant so much to me. We have three weeks to go of our holidays and the kids are getting restless, so we go out a lot. Tommorow skating, we swim every day, and go for walks at our parks close by.

I must admit I have started a lot of projects, and I am grateful for having found the time to do them in little stolen moments, but most of the art pieces are unfinished. Hopefully as things slow down back to our 'normal' routine I can finish them.

I would like to thank firstly HybridJ for sending me her gorgeous work of art "The Christmas Sky", beautifully hand drawn by her as a give away for Christmas. I was so happy when it arrived. It is displayed on the kitchen bench side next to my other art pieces that I admire daily. I will cherish it always :) Thank You HybridJ, such a lovely gift!

This week I will also start with the "Creative Everyday" prompt for January, THE BODY.
I made a "Soulful Diva" art doll as displayed in the magazine Get Creative, the artist who makes this is a lovely lady called Sarah Lawrence and from this article I was then inspired to make one of my own,( I may make more to dispaly as a group) and I have also bought a book by her titled 20 To Make Art Dolls.
This Soulful Diva is not yet finished, she will be stuffed with filling and other little trinkets (like a little paint brush) and special words/poems to give it special meaning for me.

Hope you like the "Soulful Diva" she gives out an energy of calmness, of knowingness, she seems wise beyond her years, and so very grounded. Instead of sitting for big chunks of time, I have been taking snippets of it and quickly working away, stealing five minutes here and there depending on what is happening.
Moving slowly on each project, then working some more as time allows.
I always thought that doing it this way would lack passion or focus, but I have surprised myself that it actually makes more fun, and less pressure. I have made lots of journal backgrounds, with left over paints, fibre, materials what ever I had at hand. Soon I will fill these pages with collage, words, journaling, doodling and more paint! Fun-fun-fun!
Which brings me to my new years resolution! Fun being the operative word. When I did the art course I had to learn so much in such a short period, and a lot of focus on skill and technique, and for me it took away the fun of art and the spontaneity it can have when you are excited and exploring new mediums or projects. If I can find a different art course which encourages these values and beliefs I will enroll straight away!

This is a drawing of a girl from my imagination, (I have been enjoying drawing and sketching faces) I will transfer her image on to a painted canvas and then I will doodle some shapes around her. This idea was taken from Milliande's Channel on You Tube called "Mixed Media Painting Canvas - Combining Art" Lots of exploring and playing, so much fun!

A few weeks ago I met with Crissy at the Northey Street Markets, she is a wonderful inspiring artist who is involved in community and environmental art work. I went with my girls to one of her workshops, we made planter pots and covered it with recycled materials, Chrissy then gave us sunflower seeds to grow in our pots. The seedlings are growing beautifully, when they flower I will post a picture, we are all very excited to see them. Maybe I will be inspired to sketch them!

The new year will bring with it many exciting challenges. I will be starting work, after 7 years of being a stay at home mum (ohh my!). In late January I will be teaching as a Relief for the first few years as I am new to Queensland Education, I am originally from Darwin Northern Territory. So I need to make up points till I become permanent and then I can find work at a school, this is where I have come up with my wonderful idea, to make an Art Club in school time and do some sort of journal art, or canvas painting with kids that are interested in creative arts. Another idea I have been thinking of strongly is about doing more studies in Art Therapy, as you can see from most of my posts I believe art can heal us and bring peace and joy to our lives by allowing us to free our worries or burdens through expressing ourselves. But we will see what the year brings.

I wanted to thank you all for supporting and sharing your art and your hearts with me throughout the year, this journey has given me so much, a real belief that life can give you what you need at the right time. It has helped me grow and realise that we truly all are wonderful special human creative beings.

Merry Christmas to you all, love Angie. :D

Owl Mania

The school holidays have started and the kids are home for the next 6 weeks. I have been looking forward to this for a while, no more school pick up or drop off. Phew!! But it will mean that I have to get 'crafty' (giggle) about managing my time to do some art. So far so good, have been squeezing in time to doodle and play around with drawing cartoon owls. I don't know why or what has possessed me to draw owls but I love them, they are wise and spiritual animals and they like to read! Some of the owl drawings I googled, some are from a cartoon my kids like to watch and others are from the imagination. Hope you like them.

This is a new journal entry (apologies for the fuzzyness of picture). Again very play related, do you remember making butterfly prints at school by sqeezing paint inthe middle of the page and then squishing it all up, to then open it and each time the butterfly would be different. After the paint dried I doodled around the butterfly.

Do you let yourself play some times? Give it a go, it's so much fun, maybe you can squish some paint and make butterflies!

Oil Painting

The first image above is of my first ever oil painting, taken from a photo from our recent holidays in Byron Bay, this is one of the gorgeous views which we enjoyed daily on our stay there.

The painting isn't finished yet, so far this is my second coat, few more to go till I am happy with it, needs more detail and 3 dimensional effect on the front in particular. I really enjoyed painting with oils wet on wet, particularly when I make a mistake I can easily wipe it off! The paints are bright and strong too.

This is our last art piece of the art course which finished last week, and sadly I couldn't go to all my classes, so now will try to finish this at home in time for the Exhibition in February. We can enter any piece and I will enter the oil painting.

Promise to show the other paintings in the following week.

I have been U tubing (is that even a word?) and finding lots of fun arty painting activities to do at home, loving Miliande a lot and have started to do a piece from her in acrylics and mixed media. I really enjoy doing experimental pieces where there are no rules as such and just let the play come into it, where my art classes felt very different very structured and informative. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my art classes but at times I did question whether this is where I wanted to go with my art, but Kim, the teacher, said you need to know the theory of each medium and explore them, and you need to be able to know what each medium can do.

What I was also wondering was whether art could have another vocation, to use a word. What I am getting at is can art also be used to free your spirit more, heal and find those parts of us we feel are lost sometimes? Mmmm, something to contemplate....

Hope your art whether you paint or write or sing fills those places for you and brings you joy!

Angie x

On Leave...

Hello everyone,
I really wanted to catch up with all, just really busy painting! (I am so happy creating and learning lots), I have been involved in my art classes, which I have been attending these last few months, we are approaching the last three weeks till the "Art Exhibition"! I am sooo excited and a little nervous, my first ever exhibition, and the other students have all been so wonderful and supportive we have really bonded over the weeks as the pressure is on to finish our pieces. I am at the moment doing two lessons per week and with school run and house stuff , doing x-mas shopping/organising, I am feeling a little inundated with errands and finishing work off, so I will be absent for a few more weeks, but will return hopefully with lots of pictures of work to share...Also I would like to keep in touch and see what everyone else have been up to!
Hope your days are also filled with creative endeavours...see you all soon Angie ox

Away On Vacation

Have been away for a week and seems for ever. I don't sell art, I don't do art daily, other people (family) don't see doing art as of value, feeling like I am waisting my time on too much hobbying. ( then the child in me softly speaks out, but I want to live a life of my own creation - happy, messy stuff, full of quiet, noise, busy, colourfull stuff!)

Rather than seeing the value in what I am trying to achieve....transforming my being into what my life's purpose is, allowing myself to express and grow, exploring and making soul connections, connecting to the authentic self, not being afraid to show my authentic self, even when others may not like it.

So all of these questions swirling in my head for days, but then as I was mopping the floor I realised that yes I am an artist because I create daily, maybe not painting daily, but when I bake a cake the same yearning to create comes in my centre and I have this great urge to want to bake. That urge, that feeling never really leaves me, I always feel it and I love that, because when I first had my daughters I felt like I lost it, but a very good friend of mine did remind me that creating a human being in your body, was 'creative ' enough! Yeah!!! (Must remind myself to be more compassionate with self)

I really loved the idea of doing one thing different daily, changing what I did, so I jumped on our trampoline and sang children's nursery rhymes, sang out loud in the lounge room to "Mamma Mia!" and wrote everything with my left hand for one day (this was a hard one!) Want to do art on my bed, go for a moon lit walk, leave love notes for friends and family to find mysteriously, maybe walk backwards around the house! Hehehe.

What are you trying differently today? Let your creative side out to play, have some fun! All the best with next weeks chapter "Risk", I don't know about you but it feels like its getting harder each week as we get more into this, just need to be more compassionate with self, its o.k. still learning the ropes of how to bring more joy in! But by golly I will try!

Martha advices us to work towards our desire daily by sitting in stillness with it, listening to the desire see if it brings with it a taste of love, and spend some time on it daily, to make the desire reall.

For me my biggest desire is to become an artist. Even saying it exillerates me,"I am an artist!". Some of you may know that I have started an art course and last week we had a watercolourist come and introduce watercolours, he is a retired 70 year old man who started painting at 65 and has since then won awards, published a few books and is now a resident artist in a school, and as I was listening to him I was thinking, yes it can be done if you really want it you can go for it and make your self! The whole course has exposed us to so many talented artists that have made it through their desires, just from pure love and wanting to do so. This course has really enspired me!

Some days my focus is so strong and I get a reall connection with that energy and things really seem to flow, but other times I can't even pick up a pencil, this is when I doubt myself and wonder wether I have the right focus/desire.

I had an Aha! moment just recently about this, about how just because its something you are meant to do it doesn't mean it comes easily everytime, their is struggle, doubts and rejection. Just look at the great artists of our century, most were struggling artists, who were rejected by the art world, yet they still painted and continued on their journey of their destiny!

Do you sometimes find this struggle, yet you continue on? What do you do to help yourself out of this struggle?

Need to find sometime for stillness and ask more questions, Angie :)

Positive Words

I love affirmations, I wrote a few simple ones on a post it note and stuck it on the cars' sun vissard a while back, so everytime I get in the car I am reminded, 'I am safe', 'the world is friendly' and 'I appreciate myself'.
They help especially on those mornings when we are running late and everything that could go wrong is going wrong!
I had been thinking about doing some ATCs and use the concept of positive words written on them. You can never have too many positive words to remind you how great you are, your soul, your spirit...
I like the thought of having the cards all in a bowl on the table, grabing them when ever I need a little positive push.
I made 10 so far, am planning to make more in different mediums.
These were made using cardboard from a cereal box, covered in tissue paper, then painted with different colour, some were glittered, sequenced and words were chosen to be glued on top. I haven't written in a journal since I was a teenager, and I remember how great it felt to let it all out!
And after reading some other posts from "The Joy Diet" group, I have been inspired to get an old lined page book and cover it with some painted paper, put a title on it, and make it my brand new writing journal!
I like how some of the participants explained that they wrote down what their negative self talk was saying and then retorted with ten positive truths. This idea was from 'Ellecubed'. This is a hard one, truth isn't pretty, but I like it, yet it can scare me. Sometimes I turn away from it and prefer the comfort of pain, small pains but still pain, sometimes big pains.

After having children, it became easier to tell the truth about certain things and do away with silly little antics like friends who weren't really friends, and people who wear masks, you do away with those people because well... I didn't have time to play in there games and was too tired to even try.

But still I know that the truth can still be hard to realise. Just recently my husband and I discussed our trip away to his family for two weeks. They are lovely people and we will have a lovely time away, the kids will see the grand parents and I/we (the adults) will get some time to ourselves and sight see a little, all lovely!

But every time we brought the subject up I would start to get slightly emotional and we would end up getting frustrated with each other.

Hubby planned one event and I would be ...."but that trip is too long, or the time is wrong!". So I caught myself and asked..."What am I feeling right now, what is the painful story I am telling myself?" and I realised that I was creating drama and making everyone's life difficult, why? Because, I felt that I had no control over what was happening on MY holiday! Kinda had a tantrum, how embarrassing but true! So we talked it over made some new arrangements and now we are both happy, we are going away for two weeks holiday and I can't wait!

What do you think of the collage above? (Tell the truth, or maybe don't ;))

Kinda appeared on its own playing with water soluble crayons on watercolour paper, then cutting magazine papers and matching colours, then journaled some ideas and words to go with TRUTH. Hope you like it, have a great weekend Angie:).

Sew Right!

Hello everyone! Look at what I did, I am sooo proud of myself for learning to make this bag and I enjoyed it so much. Look it has pockets too!

At first I must admit was a little apprehensive about sewing, even at school I never did well. But I love the whole idea of making things like bags, skirts and softies for myself and the kids. So now I feel with the limited knowledge I can go forth and learn more progress and have more crafty fun!

My next project in sewing might be a skirt!?

This bag is now my art bag, it has a charcoal, 2b, 4b, 6b, 8b pencils, water colours, brushes, sketch water colour pad and a journal. I take this to my art classes on Thursdays.

I am learning so much from Kim my teacher, she is fabulous and so energetic and inspiring, a real gem! So far we have been doing a lot of sketching and learning about value tone and colour, also a bit of dabling with water colours, next week we start with acrylics which I am excited about and then mixed media, can't wait!

Happy creating everyone, Angie :)

The Joy Diet - Nothing

Wow second week of "The Joy Diet", I have felt kind of rushed this week, kids are on school holidays, and I suppose this is the purpose of the book to allow myself to see that I need time to let myself be, to reconnect with my authentic self.
The goal for this week was to take 15 mins everyday of stillness, let the body relax and the mind find quiet from the chatter.
Before I began this challenge i had already been doing some meditation taught to me by my father, I was , and that is the operative word WAS, meditating for a while maybe 2-3 times a week, then as usual old habits creap in and one "forgets" to do it.
So I thought that to start again would be easy enough. But to be honest it took me much longer than 15mins, more like 30mins and I could only do this at night after the kiddies were asleep, to get to that place of quietness.
Once I got to that quiet place daily I felt better each day, calmer, fresher. Yet to get to the chair where I sit at night still feels like a struggle, I resist, and I ask myself why?
Has anyone else felt their body resisting?
I would rather be doing something else.....like my art!
That is my 'Amanpuri' my place of solitude, doing my art work in my artroom. When I am home alone and noone interupts me I feel so at peace and my mind is filled with silence.....But to get to this place has taken me a long time, to understand how important art is to me, even on those days when i don't feel like it, or don't feel good enough.
So I sit there and try to remember that feeling of creating, that familiar place, feels like coming home.

I did this journal page thinking about the book and what it meant to be doing "Nothing". It is like a sacred time, space, retreat from the rest of the world to reconnect with my soul. It was a fun page to put together, a first for me in collaging, will be doing more for sure.

Happy reading for next week and all the best in finding your one moment of truth! It feels almost serindipitous that the book being read is this one, and if you have read my last post I mentioned all these things that i have noticed happen, I am sure things like these happen all the time but I have been trying to look more, use my senses more, my awareness of my surroundings, feel more!

I have also started a gratitude journal to allow myself to see life more positive, even the small stuff, it all counts. I suppose to allow more joy in!

So this week we introduce the book and ourselves, then we start reading the first chapter about 'Nothing' and talk about how we can make more room for nothing in our lives and how this can positively effect us. And I must add with how I have been feeling these last few weeks, I can do with more joy in my life, a little boost of positive energy.

Heres' to new ventures in all our lives, let's step out of our confort zone and into something delicious and joyous!

Angie ox

Giddy Up!

So here I am back on the horse riding a slow trot towards the light.
Well apart from everyone been sick, one after the other this winter I feel totally exausted and needed the time to replenish...I really did feel like I had nothing to share and felt like my art had no where to go. After procrastinating and feeling sorry for my self, I realised how lucky I really am, I kind of had an Aha! moment.
Let me explain...My daughter who started kindy this year wasn't meant to get into kindy, the places were all filled up they told me when I desperately rang around, then a week later they rang back to say a spot was available. From kindy I met the teacher who's sister teaches art, and after some encouragement from my husband and friends, I am attending her art lessons once a week, and they are excellent! and I am very excited about the exibition where we all get to display our art work! (it makes it feel so reall)
Then other little things kept happening, like Jamie Ridler's next book, she is doing "The Joy Diet", and I had just bought this book recently through Amazon.(and I really need something like this at the moment, joy filled)
I met another mum through school who is organising an Art & Craft Fair and I put my hand up to help out maybe put up a stall?
So it all feels wonderful and positive, yet I still struggle with that gremlin at times and I feel myself shrinking back saying to myself, what have I got to give? Who am I?
But I am ignoring its voice for now and am trotting forward, onwards I go....

We have school holidays here for two weeks so it will give me more time to post and catch up with all you lovely people, I really have missed the interaction, blogging is such a positive and sharing environment....4 weeks seems like such a long time, how often do you post? Do you have particular days or randomly post when you feel the urge or inspiration?

Journal Pages

I am happy to say that this week I feel I have accomplished something positive!
I have finally started my journal pages. I am now no longer afraid of the blank page starring at me, I feel that now I can allow myself to let go of my fears and just paint, draw, and sketch, or what ever takes my fancy.
I must explain why this feels like such a big deal to me. For a while now I have felt paralised by the white canvas or page not knowing where or how to begin, but really being afraid of the whole outcome.
Being able to shed this skin has given me so much freedom and calm, I truly feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. The best thing about it is I don't care about he outcome of the work in my journals because the process itself has felt so liberating, a real letting go (which is one of the words I wrote in one of the journal pages). It was so satisfying to let the paint dribble or flick in what ever direction it went without having the self critic come out and create that negative feeling of never being good enough, or not creating enough, or painting like this or that artist.
"What ever!" I say. Let that creative muse out she will show you the way.....;)

Wanted to show you one of my his first pastel drawing in a long time, it was done last year, and it is of my first baby, he is our gorgeous chocolate labrodor who always takes care of us and if we are in any way upset he can tell and he will come and sit by you and lay his head on your lap as if to say, "It's O.K. ".

This is the first of hopefully many journal pages to come, the lay out was an inspiration from Ruby Claire from http://ruby-rox.blogspot.com, a young artist who lives in Sydney, found her on You Tube showing her great skills in Art journalling and Scrapbooking, go see her blog it is full of colour and brightness.
The pages are written in very small print, but they say:

"I sometime find it hard to TRUST in the process.Creating helps me. Making these journal pages allowed me to LET GO I could flick the paint and let it spill without knowing where it was going. But for some reason I knew and BELIEVED it would all workout. I felt a RELEASE from worries. I EMBRACED this great feeling and allowed myself to just BREATHE and enjoy the process."

Click to enlarge pictures and have a closer look. Am I afraid of what others think? Am I not proud of my stuff? Will people judge me in some way from what they see?
Then I had an Ahaa! moment.... I understood why for so long I had struggled to get into making and creating, even when inside my head I had a constant voice telling me to make things to create, to let go!
Even to this day the voice talks to me," create, just get the paints out, you'll feel better"it says. And the voice is right, I always feel better, but yet I found it difficult to keep that creative rhythm, and the reason was that I was too stuck on the end result, on having this perfect image.
Today I realise the time that I have spent in fear of not making something right, I lost in making nothing.
So I have made a promise to myself in getting the paints out more often, in displaying my art work, and creating more often, in listening to that voice who never lets up!
Also lately I have been wearing some of my creations, scarves and jewellry I made a while back.
These are earings which I made a few months ago, but felt too big so I changed the shape and yes I wore them out a few times! :)

Still having fun with my concoctions of homemade things, thought I would share another homemade beauty tip, I make this often to exfoliate the face with.
Oat Face Scrub

1-2 tblsp oatmeal/rolled oats

enough water to make a paste

Once you have a paste consistancy, mix in a small bowl using fingers to squish the oats up, scrub on a cleansed face for two minutes.(I sometimes leave on and shower away then at the end I will rinse off with warm water). Rinse and pat dry. Oats are soothing to skin and mildly cleanses.
Other ingredients which you can add oats are:

tsp of lemon juice, not on sensitive skins!

1 drop of lavender essential oil

tbsp full cream plain yoghurt

tbsp raw honey

Going away to family for the weekend and will come back with some photos of mums new chooks! The girls have the job of naming all six of them and collecting some eggs for us to bring home....wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Angie ox

Friendships and Creative Spaces

The very first thing I would like to express is a great big thankyou to Hybid J for passing on the "WaterMelon 10 Award" , I believe that it is for people who blog and share their creative spirit on line, (even though of late I have been rather out of touch on the sharing).
So again THANK YOU and I would like to pass this torch on wards to 3 other gorgeous creative ladies:

Beverly Baird from Bunny's Girl

Tamarak from Tamarak's Table

Cynthia from Under a Violet Moon

These ladies have shown me that as women we can be supportive of each other and inspiring too. As you can see on the left side I have a sewing machine, given to me by mum 2 x-mas's ago, haven't used it yet. But have just bought some material to make a bag, that is why I have the machine out. I love fabrics and the textures of sewing, but have always been afraid to actually do it! I feel myself resisting to do it. But with baby steps, micro movements, I will make that bag. I have already cut the material ready for sewing, just need to iron the batting on.

Another thing I have been revisiting is Aromatherapy, before children I used to make my own bath salts, massage oils and face masks. Somehow in the busyness of life having moved 3 times since having children I kind of lost a part of me, kind of forgot stuff. (I made massage blends for the girls when they were babies but then I stopped)Here and now I am slowly remembering what is important and have started to make up some new recipes for me. I have a new motto, Natural is best, if you can't eat it its best not to apply it on your body. My first new cleanser I have been using at the moment is a sugar and olive oil scrub. I have oily skin but this seems to give my skin a glow, especially now as it is winter and the heaters are so drying.

So give this a try - 2tbls of brown soft sugar with 1tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and a drop of your favourite essential oil, I use bergamot. I do this in the shower and the aromas of the essential oil are sensational. When I started doing these homemade remedies I felt like it was such an indulgence. I was giving myself the time to care for myself and reconnect with my body, in winter I often feel like I hide my body under the layers of clothing and don't even look at it until summer comes!

Hope you all give yourselves time this weekend to reconnect with yourselves and indulge a little in some YOU time...

Angie ox

To be or not to be, that IS the question!

Hello friends,

Have been away for a while sitting on my hands, when it comes to creating connecting and expressing self.

Feeling very down because I have been quite ill over the last few weeks and feeling rather sorry for myself. Also the girls have been home for the school holidays and I couldn't really sit around the house all day in my P.J.'s, would of been nice but not realistic.

I shouldn't complain at all really because we have had a lovely time, went into the city caught the train, which was fabulous because serindipily (is that a word?), I met a lovely arty lady who was drawing on stage whilst a great band was playing Brazilian music! We got chatting and she shared her process of drawing this wonderful picture she was making. (she used chalk on canvas which I never thought of doing), go check out her website for some of her art work, very beautiful especially her sculptures, http://www.mealieart.com/

We also made pizza,

Went on picnics
and acted crazy when ever possible, all whilst I was sniffling and feeling rather miserable, but one grins and says wow what a lovely time we are having! :)

GRRRR!!!! Play with me mummy!

Such beautiful girls, and growing up way too fast.

Today was raining and cold outside, we did go for a quick outing but came home soon after and I did manage to do a pastel work on canvas, inspired idea by Amelia, and it is a self portrait - an art prompt from "Creative Every Day". This self portrait was done listening to Enya 'A Cold Day Without Rain', it is representing myself coming out of the dark looking out into the colours, kind of like I felt lately, but realising that the dark is part of the light and being at peace with that, not fighting it and getting frustrated. Again kind of like I have been feeling lately. Frustrated with being sick and not feeling lively and colourful. I really enjoyed making this today, pastels are my favourite medium, and whilst I was working away to the music I felt my cheeks warm up and become rosy, it was like the fire in me has lit up again, like in the picture.......may your fires burn and keep you warm as the creative emburs burn, baby burn.

Thought I would call this "Intuition".

Lots of creative hugs, Angie ox.

Serendipity and Synchronicity Prompt!

Journal prompt from True North Arts, here is a link to Kathryns fabulous blog to have a look and maybe enter your own journal page!

http://truenortharts.com/

Thought I'd re-load picture of journal page, the first one was scanned and for some reason it won't open to enlarge on the blog page but jpeg pictures do. Eventually I did start to relax and found the flow in the creating process.
The image is of a home made compass, where you put water in a bowl and with a metal object you allow the magnetising to turn the needle to north. The blue represents water, words floating around it are the answers to the questions asked by Katheryn. The images around, I used 'inchies', are of 1inch squares painted in acrylics and decorated simply using what ever I had on hand. Some are drawn with black ink, others I used pastel pencils, glued on numbers found in news papers and stickers.
Most of the images are of things which has special meaning to me like -

the female form represents creativity, female energies, the muse....

the all seeing eye is soul/spirit....

swirling shapes of water/nature

images of nature, birds, flowers....

the letter T for teaching, words of expression and meaning....

things I like to do in my own art doodling, painting....

my lucky number 5!

Hope you like the first journal, it is one of many more to come. As I am still recovering from a head cold.
I needed some time for self, so I have also had time for creating, some research (surfing finding new blogs, some great creativity going out there!), time with family.
As things have slowed down I have had lots of time to think and was able to really write in my journal, this is a book that I write my thoughts on art, things I want to make and how to work some projects, collections of pictures I like, brainstorming ideas etc...It really helps with having a clear mind on what I want to create, which of late I have not.
I have wanted to start an Art Journal and took on the Serendipity Compass challenge from "True North Arts".
I got half way and got stuck for ideas and kind of froze for a while, so then I took out my trusty journal and started writing out ideas, rough sketches and I am going to add to my compass some 'inchies', something I found out about whilst researching, they are one inch cardboard squares decorated and embellished how ever one wants, so I will try these out and post soon.
Didn't actually realise how small an inch was! (in Australia we work with cm)
Anyhows, I am going back to my art and finish those tiny inchies.
Here is a doodle I did a few nights ago, hope you all have a great week, Angie ox.

Let the beauty we love be what we do

Rumi

Playing catch up!

What a week I have had ! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, lots of catching up with family, visiting from Sydney, and friends moving up to Queensland, birthdays and now feeling a little tired but very happy.

Unfortunately no art has been created but lots of thoughts where there for you all, wondering if Hybrid J was feeling better, wanted to know how Bev was going with her 100 challenge (wish I could of started it too, little too late but) and also how Leone was going with all her paintings. I on the other hand have produced nothing of late and really need to pull my finger out.

I did manage to doodle a front cover of one of my new Journals. This one is small so as not to intimidate me, I like to do it to relax at night infront of the telly(T.V.).

Even though I am tired, feeling run down, and we are all coming down with a cold, I feel this great energy, seeing friends and family has really infused me with positive spirit!

Let's just hope it can last and I can make some art.

Here is the journal page. I like how I wrote on the 2009 sign with wings how "time flies, so don't waste it!". Yeah, I should listen to myself more often. Enough critisism, more art please.

I have also had some time at nights to read and I got this fabulous book for my birthday from hubby, by Eckhart Tolle 'The Power of NOW'.

I have been so interested in it, every thing he is saying makes so much sense, it has really opened my eyes, and from it I have been trying to be more aware of my thoughts and take time throughout my day to just stop and live in the moment, I think this is the reason for my extra energy, my positive outlook.

How are things for you?

What do you do to keep your mind quiet, to live in the now without the noise of your unconcious mind?

Art could be a good answer!

Angie ox

Out of Routine

I have been meaning to write more often in the blog, but always seem to manage once a week. I would like to write a few more times in the week, I am sure there is no sure and fast rule to it, but I do like to have things set out so I know what is happening and I can keep track of things too. I am getting easily distracted lately and seem to be doing very little art or creating.

Last week I did manage to make some book marks out of felt, just as gifts and to try out into a

plait format. It was easy to do but I must admit that every time I finished one I had no idea how I managed it, it sort of seemed to come together by itself. A sort of intuitive twisting and folding of fibers, it was very calming to make them. Here they are, what do you think?

Some I added beads, some I threaded yarn, some were felted with a felting needle. Like I said they were such fun to make.

The book marks look and feel to me like forms of nature like tree roots and tree limbs twisting and looping like the fibres felted on the felt.

I need to beckon my muse I feel a little uninspired today, but I also have this huge urge to get my paints out, but I have been so busy with the children, this week.

My oldest has a dress up ball to attened and I am trying to finish her butterfly costume or rather her wings need to be glittered and painted.
Also my youngest got into kindy this week and so I needed to sign and fill a gazzillion papers for that, I am so excited for her, she will make friends and learn lots but I am going to miss her so much, it is only for two days.

We have a bit on our plate at the moment so maybe I should allow myself to not create at the moment and let myself to just do what is needed.
We had a lovely weekend with friends over for dinner and a relaxing Sunday watching movies.

I got the movie "Marley and Me"and because we also have a labrador which is what the movie is about, when Marley(the golden labrador)got sick and eventually died, husband and I just couldn't stop crying, my husband really loves his dog.

Poor Nelson(that's our dog) he just looked at us and must of thought what is wrong with these humans, they are always weeping!

Hope you also had a lovely weekend! I did write some words in it but the photo shot hasn't got
enough detail. (click on image to see more detail)The messages are:

"Reach for the stars"

"Create"

"Love Yourself"

They are meant to be like affirmations, to help the viewer achieve the positive thoughts.
The middle picture is a doodle painting, sort of like doodling with a pen except I used a small brush with paints.
What do you think of the idea? I would like to incorporate more of these doodle paintings in my work, once I have figured out which way I am going with my art. I have no style of my own and am feeling a little lost as to what to create sometimes.
But experimenting has been good too, it's allowed me to let go of, no expectations, freeing me up, as Leah in Creative Every Day has said to allow yourself to create ugly work, so I give myself permission to just create, and when the time is right my muse will guide me in the right direction. I feel like I am now gathering the tools, the experiences, to then go forth and create with more of my spirit/identity/personality (not sure what to call it?).

And here is some of my experimenting I did with inks. Love them but not so good with handling them. The first one is an ink blowing exercise , I used burnt umber acrylic ink, which you are meant to make the inks flow into a tree figure then with a brush and some water make some leaves on the branches, to go with the "Nature" theme. I did these on watercolour paper and I think it soaked the inks too quickly and I feel it didn't work.

The other two were just playing around, trying to blend two colours together, and an oil pastel using three different colours, brushed blue ink on top. Once dry I scratched different patterns out.

I had fun playing around with inks, might use them in some drawings in the future, or even in my journalling.

Last week went to an art shop and bought myself a journal, still sitting there looking at me. Once I get started I will be O.K. the ball will start rolling as such, but at the moment the journal in empty, how does one start a brand new journal? What do I put in my first page?Do I do an intro of my self, my goals, the journals purpose? How have you started your journal?

Angie ox

I am back on line and so eager to update on all that has happened.

Last week after my first blog entry husband and I went happily searching and surfing the net that we hadn't realised we downloaded all our down time. So we had to stop using the net. But now we are up and running with extra hours up our sleaves!

Not all was lost though. I did do art and painted and made some crafty things which I had wanted to do in a while. (will post the finished pictures of a doodle painting soon)

For the Creative Every Day Challenge I brainstormed some ideas about how I would express "Nature" in art.

Draw something in nature

Draw something using natural materials (thinking red earth?)

Portray nature using collage of natural things I find (still collecting for this one)

Draw a portrait of "Mother Nature". (this idea came to me as mother's day approached and the two seemed to have some correlation, mothers give birth and create life. Mother Nature also creates and gives life. I had no preconceived idea of what the picture would be like, just knew it would need a female figure, and show nature. Here I have a tree growing from her head the intuitive area, and the dry barren dessert behind her. She looks sombre and deep in thought like almost willing for the rains to come to nourish the Earth and bring life.

The female figure is made from charcoal, the background is in water paints and tried to get texture on the sand area by putting salt on it when it was still wet.(didn't really work)

This has been my first real painting in a long time and I am so happy that finally that big sleeping part of me is finally waking!

Below is a mixed media painting I made for mother's day for mum and it is a representational only. Words to express what she means to me and images of swirls, flowers, sun and hearts to convey all the beautiful things she is to me. This painting will go in her sewing room where she creates.

I used acrylics to paint the image and gel medium for the first time, loved it! I glued on the tissue paper hearts with it, and the sun out of tissue paper torn strips. The words were written in black ink.

I am so grateful to have this opportunity to share my art, thoughts and wishes with all of you.

Have a great week making art and expressing yourself!

Angie ox

New beginnings

Hello world....
First time blogger, but have been looking at other blogs for years.
